Meet Our Corporate Nurse Practitioner
To celebrate National Nurses’ Day and Nurses’ Week, It’s A Secret Med Spa is highlighting our new Corporate Nurse Practitioner, Ashley Wagner.
Ashley Wagner’s journey into the world of aesthetics began in a very different setting from that of a med spa. As a graduate from Baylor University, she is also a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society. Soon after earning her degree, she proudly accepted her first position as an ER nurse at Baylor University’s Medical Level 1 Trauma Center.
Two years later, Ashley was ready for a change of scenery, so she took a new ER position at Parkland Hospital where she successfully completed her Critical Care Nurse residency. During her time at Parkland, her hard work and skills quickly propelled her into leadership roles, one being Charge Nurse and a preceptor for new graduate nurses.
It wasn’t long before Ashley became interested in the medical world outside of the ER. She decided to explore the arena of plastic surgery and began her career as a licensed nurse practitioner in that field. For 4 years, she shadowed a plastic surgeon, and it was during this time that she began to realize her passion for understanding the anatomy of the human face. She was especially intrigued by muscle depth and the process of facial aging. Armed with this new knowledge and fascination, she knew that she wanted to become an aesthetic nurse injector and trainer, which brought her to the doors of It’s A Secret Med Spa as the Corporate Nurse Practitioner. “I was drawn to the fact that It’s A Secret requires their injectors to be licensed registered nurses, whereas other med spas do not,” Ashley said. She also loved the fact that she would play an integral role in IAS’s commitment to in-house education and training of their providers.
“I was drawn to the fact that It’s A Secret requires their injectors to be licensed registered nurses, whereas other med spas do not.”
After recently passing the challenging Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist (CANS) exam, Ashley is recognized by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) as a professional aesthetic nurse who holds the value of education, clinical practice, and growth in the highest regard.
Ashley’s goals for IAS are to empower her fellow nurse injectors and laser technicians to become the best versions of themselves by providing them with ongoing trainings and professional development opportunities, while inspiring them to obtain even higher certifications. “With the booming of Medical Spas nationwide, it is imperative to have consistent trainings and promote higher education to ensure the safest, positive aesthetic outcomes for our patients.”
When it comes to favorite treatments, Ashley’s go – to is the IPL Photofacial. Whether you’re a seasoned Photofacial veteran, or you’ve never had one, here are some interesting facts about this game changing procedure:
- Photofacials utilize Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy, which helps to improve the color and texture of your skin. It can also undo some of the visible damage caused by sun exposure — called photoaging.
- IPL rejuvenates the skin, decrease wrinkles, redness, and sunspots.
- IPL rejuvenates the skin at a molecular level. Studies have shown gene expression changes from biopsies meaning the skin restoring photo damaged skin to resemble young skin.
- Depending on what your aesthetic goal is depends on the number of IPL treatments.
Ashley’s Treatment Recommendations:
“4 Photofacials per year is my maintenance and preventative plan to give me a youthful appearance.”
